Release Day Review: "You're Not Alone" by Stacy Eaton

Synopsis:

Trinity Morris, co-founder of You’re Not Alone, has a domestic violence past that still haunts her ten years later. She is devoted to helping victims find freedom and to sharing information on how to help them through their emotional and violent trials. While Trinity is presenting at a seminar, she comes across Gavin, a police officer who knows her past all too well.

It’s been ten years since he last saw her, but the moment Gavin’s eyes land on her, he’s intent on getting to know the woman who has haunted his dreams all these years.

Can Gavin break through the wall that Trinity has built around herself, or will the present and the past collide and take her away from him again?

Genre: Contemporary Romance

My Review:

You're Not Alone is an emotional, inspiring story of a woman and a man, both of whom have survived abuse in their life, finding each other and finding happiness together. The author drew me into this book from the very first chapter - she teases the reader with the possibility of recognition between the Trinity and Gavin - and makes the reader NEED to read on. The story is fast-paced and I found myself wanting to read faster and faster as the story continues, needing to read at the pace of the story. The book is set ten years after Trinity's "situation" but we find out quickly that she still has a lot of healing left to do - and Gavin is the perfect person to help her through that. He's a sensitive, alpha hero who knows just how to approach Trinity in a way that puts her at ease and draws her in. He is sensitive to her triggers and her fears and helps her manage them.

Trinity's abuse has resulted in a self-confidence problem and I love how the author demonstrates Trinity's self-esteem issues and the way that Gavin address them. He has to walk a tightrope of telling her how he feels and what he wants without scaring her away - considering how long he has had feelings for her.

The book is written in alternating first person point-of-view, a hallmark of this author. Its a sensual romance but no specifics of intimacy scenes are included, instead left up to the imagination of the reader. But, I didn't find that I missed the details, because so much of a romance is the emotional connection the reader feels to the characters, and I felt that connection even without the specifics.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
